Overnight in Tiger City
So here I am having to spend overnight in Tiger City… Anyone figured out where I am at the moment? It’s somewhere up North in Scandinavia, a couple more miles further and I could go say hello to Santa Claus haha!
After spending just over 4 hours in the Lufthansa Senator lounge at Frankfurt airport I made my way to the designated gate, A15, which was just outside the lounge.
Instead of scanning my boarding pass and walking onto the plane, I had to walk down a set of stairs and then get on a fricking bus. Not really something you want to do after loading up on whisky for the past couple of hours, but anyway hop on!
I managed to get an exit row on this flight which would take about 1h40 and as soon as the plane was at cruising altitude I had to use the restroom to get rid of all the single malt whisky I had taken in the previous hours haha!
We landed just before midnight and the airport seemed to be completely deserted… In the previous hours I had tried to check myself in for my next flights through both the British Airways website and their app on my smartphone but to no avail… Ever since they upgrade their reservation system over a week ago, things seem to go wrong! After contacting them through social media I finally got an answer from them saying that there were no ticket counters airside, so there was no point for me to stay there after I landed.
I was off the plane and into the arrivals hall in no time and walked outside to get some fresh air. For a split second I thought about going to one of the airport hotels and get myself a room for the night, but after looking at the prices I decided to walk back into the terminal building and head up to the departures hall. Prices for a hotel room here started at at least 150 euros…
Luckily there was free wifi in the building, the only downside was that I had to reconnect every hour, but hey you won’t hear me complain. In the meantime the clock has just turned to 1.16 AM, just over 4 hours to go, so this will be a long night… And let me tell you, these seats are everything but comfortable!
After an hour on this seat I couldn’t take it anymore, the seat was way too hard and the guy who sat behind kept bothering me to connect his device to the wifi, it’s not frickin rocket science, figure it out and leave me alone! I was getting cranky as I was tired and just wanted to have some peace… So I set off to find me another spot and after looking down to the ground floor I noticed some comfy seats at the Starbucks shop.
I even managed to sleep for a couple of hours till I got woken up some drunk Norwegian troll who started talking to me… For f*ck sake, can’t I get some shut eye anywhere around here?! By this time it was just after 4.30am and I went for a stroll and saw that there were a lot more people at this crazy early hour.
It was around 5am that the British Airways check in desk already opened and I headed over to get my boarding passes for the next couple of flights. I handed over my passport…
“Sir, is it correct that you have 15 flights?”
“Yes, that’s right” and I started laughing
“I have never seen such a crazy itinerary in all these years!”
“I will print your first 2 and the other you will need to get after you pass immigration in…”
Paperwork done, no luggage to check in and I walked to security where I was through in 5 minutes. Unfortunately the lounge had not yet opened and I had to wait for about 10 minutes to open. Here I could have breakfast, brush my teeth and continue my journey…
See you on the other side!
