Let me introduce myself
Well here it is, the very first post! Let me introduce myself first and tell you how this blog came about…
You probably figured out what my name is as it’s also featured in the name of this blog, and besides saying my name I always find it hard to talk in public or to start a conversation with strangers. Some people find it easy to speak in front of an audience, but I’m more of an introvert. Anyway I’m a Dutchie living undercover in Belgium since I was 8 years old. For the past 10+ years I’ve been living in and around the city of Antwerp.
It’s always funny when I sit together with some Belgian and Dutch people in a group as I will switch between my original Dutch accent and the Belgian (Flemish) accent which I’ve picked up over the years. “Dutch?” I hear you think, “But he’s writing in English?”. Yes as it’s my second language and I’ve been working for an American company for close to 18 years now and picked up on English when I was a kid, so it comes natural to me. By writing in English I want to reach out to a bigger audience around the globe and I also have a lot of people around me that are native English speaking.
In the past I was a contributor to some online communities related to all my hobbies: I wrote for a carp fishing website and forum, was part of a big Dutch mountainbiking forum, made tutorials related to DJ software and last but not least I invested a huge amount of time writing articles for a Dutch frequent flyer blog during the past year.
As I wasn’t happy with the way things were going on that last project, I made it clear by giving my strong personal opinion and eventually decided to withdraw myself from that blog as a contributor as it just didn’t work out. It felt like talking to a brick wall at times… Weeks and months went by and I felt uneasy because I love writing and I didn’t have a way to publish it, so after quite some brainstorming I decided to go ahead and start my own (travel) blog so I could have total control over it.
You won’t see any advertising or credit card pushing on this blog, it’s sponsored by my own bank account and I.T. knowledge. As from today you can expect regular articles about my travel plans, trip reports, hotel reviews, good deals I come across and any tips & tricks that I use.
I hope you will enjoy reading what I bring to the world and feel free to email me, leave me comments or get in touch with me through social media, I would love to hear from you!
