Finding Balance In Life
So many people will tell you that life is all about finding balance. A balance between things you must do and things you love to do. There are things that make you happy, sad or mad. While I had my share of ups and downs this year, somehow I always seem to get myself up on my feet after falling down on my ass.
The one thing that helps me most is to stay positive. No matter what kind of shit you are in, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Unless it’s dog shit, all you are left with then is a stinky foot! But hey, after cleaning it off you’re good to go again. So you see, there’s a solution for everything. And that is how I go through life. Tackling one problem at a time. There is no point in trying to handle 100 things at the same time. Oh look at me I’m multitasking! No you’re not, you’re draining yourself from energy.
I used to fool myself by telling people how good I was at multitasking. But was I being productive? No! I just kept piling more and more stuff onto my to do list. In the end I didn’t know what I was doing anymore. When you reach that point in time, you need a take a step back. Let everything go and take a break. You will see things more clear with a fresh mindset.
You will be more motivated to handle and finish one thing. Before taking on the next challenge or project. It gave me a sense of achievement. I completed one task at a time. It made me feel good, it gave me positive vibes and energy.
This does not only apply to task lists, but also to situations that occur in your life. Yes you can moan and bitch about a problem. But does this resolve it? Nope, it will only make you feel worse about it. Start thinking about how to fix it…
There’s a part of me that always wants to help others. I can’t help it, but over the years I have learned to sometimes say no. I was putting myself to the side and doing everything possible to do good for other people. But it came at a price, I drained myself from energy. Maybe I was too naive in only seeing the good side of other persons. As my life went on, I learned that some people only contact you when they need something from you.
It’s good to pay it forward, but sometimes I had to be selfish. We probably all are in life, we tend to care about ourselves. Heck in order to achieve something, you need to be strong and persistent. But never forget the people that really mean something to you, good friends and family for example. No matter what happens or what you say to each other, you will always be there for each other.
Work vs Play
Work pays the bills, it allows you to do things in life. It gives you a sense of freedom. But is it really freedom? Slaving yourself from 9 to 5 in order to pay off the nice car you bought or a mortgage that you can barely afford. The car part doesn’t apply to me as I don’t even have a driver license. Think of all the money I save!
I have always went by the motto “work to live, don’t live to work”. I started working my first real job when I was 21 and I’m still with that same company. Every now and then I receive a letter from the retirement fund which shows the date of retirement. Somewhere in 2041! What the F! Still so many years to go?!
The thought itself is just depressing. There is way more to life than sitting at a desk all day. I once told my boss from the US that my career goal was to retire at the age of 50. I don’t even want to wait until then to be honest! If there is a way to do it earlier, I will do everything possible to find it.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind working as it allows me to travel and see the world. But wouldn’t it be more fun to travel the world all year while working? I have a plan for my future. All I need to do is be patient and work hard in the meantime. It will pay off in the long run.
I follow a lot of other people that write blogs. Blogs can be a source of inspiration and motivation. If there is one guy that has opened my eyes recently, it has to be Ryan Biddulph. He gave up his security guard job and his now Blogging from Paradise!
Heck if you see his pictures, he’s always smiling. His articles are filled with useful information and humor. The one thing he tells everyone is to have FUN! You need to enjoy what you’re doing, otherwise it will become a drag. Thanks for being who you are Ryan!
